Mallow (hocas)

Mallow is a well known, native Irish plant valued in folk medicine for its soothing and calming properties since ancient times. In Irish folklore mallow was supposed to give protection again illness and fairy influence. It blooms from June to September, sometimes growing as tall as 3metres. Big mauve flowers with dark veins running into a dark-centre make mallow a distinctive plant.
